About

My Story

My name is Omar Shohoud, and I have had the pleasure of tutoring students of all ages for over 7 years now. My tutoring journey began in high school, when I volunteered with Onclass tutoring in Cupertino. There, I provided free tutoring for students from 2nd through 9th grade in math, science, and reading. The experience was so rewarding that I founded another non-profit, Notelove, which provided free music lessons to underserved communities in the Bay Area. After graduating, I moved away to attend the University of Chicago, where I taught in my free time as an online tutor with TakeLessons. Towards the end of my time in university, I spent a quarter as a calculus tutor for the UChicago Math Department, where I taught beginner calculus to 8 students.Every step of the way, I felt incredibly rewarded by the opportunity to support students in their academic endeavors and seeing them reach their full potential. I have started this independent tutoring service to continue this mission in my adult life.

Teaching Philosophy

The guiding principle that underscores both my approach to tutoring and my relationship with my students is accessibility.Regarding my tutoring methodology, my approach is centered around empowering students to utilize their existing intuition and grasp of related concepts to think critically and independently arrive at solutions. To achieve this, I use bridge-building techniques to methodically integrate what students already know with the concepts they are struggling to grasp, ensuring a deep understanding of both foundational material and higher-level ideas. I've employed this technique with incredible success with my past students.Regarding relationships with students, I believe no barrier—financial, physical, mental, or otherwise—should stand in the way of your academic goals. Whatever your needs, I am willing to discuss and provide accommodations to ensure a fruitful academic relationship between us.
